Daniel Dodd

Daniel has 11 years post qualification experience.  He qualified as a Solicitor in 1999 and joined chambers in 2003.  He has an excellent reputation as a specialist and effective advocate with detailed knowledge of family law.  Daniel is also well known for his pleasant and professional dealings with clients and professionals.  Before qualifying Daniel worked as a legal researcher and has excellent research skills.

 Fields of Work

All aspects of family law in particular:

  • Child Care (for Parents, Local Authorities and Guardians/Children)
  • Specialist knowledge of placement and adoption proceedings (including post placement contact issues)
  • Private law disputes (including intractable contact cases)
  • Ancillary relief – including Trusts of Land Act claims and civil partnership dissolution

 Child Law

Daniel has wide experience in all aspects of child care proceedings.  Daniel has been involved in many serious and complex cases in the County Court and High Court.

 

He has developed specialist knowledge in placement and adoption proceedings including post placement contact issues.  Daniel has a detailed knowledge of local authority assessment and decision making processes in relation to the placement of children with foster carers, permanent family member placements and adopters.

 

Daniel also has a keen interest in the development of Welsh family law and the introduction of specifically Welsh aspects of family law that differ to those in England (eg Special Guardianship Support Services Regulations).

 

Daniel has experience of cases that have involved the following issues:

  • Sexual abuse and non-accidental injuries in very young children
  • Serious domestic violence and specialist assessment of the voracity of evidence of children from Best Practice interviews
  • Attachment disorders in children involving specialist assessment and treatment
  • Cases with international elements and specific cultural and religious issues
  • Surrogacy including changes to the system of Parental Orders for same sex couples after the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008
  • International child abduction including Bruselles II and II(R) and Hague Convention experience in the High Court
  • All aspects of private law disputes – residence and contact including intractable contact cases where psychological assessment and enforcement issues are involved
  • Involvement of the media in family proceedings
  • Issues of disclosure and non-disclosure in family proceedings leading to High Court applications for non-disclosure


 Divorce & Civil Partnership Dissolution 

Daniel has been instructed in all forms of ancillary relief, trusts of land and other financial claims.  He has experience in cases involving limited assets, accounts, pensions and issues of conduct and contributions. 

He has also specialist knowledge in civil partnership dissolution and consequential financial provision having advised on several cases and delivering lectures in this area.

Daniel can also advise on divorce law and procedure from his involvement in complex cases and his experience as a solicitor.

Interests 

  • Daniel has 4 young sons that occupy a great deal of his time.  He enjoys camping, mountain walking, spending time at the beach and travelling with his family in Wales and Europe.  In his spare time (!!!) Daniel enjoys films and reading.
  • Daniel has a strong commitment to his local area and community and has delivered seminars to groups on his experiences in adopting his own children
