Matthew joined chambers in 2000 after qualifying at the Inns of Court School of Law amongst the top 30 barristers in his year.  Since joining chambers, he has developed a mixed practice of criminal, regulatory and family work. 

Crime & Regulatory

In the Crown Court, defence cases include serious violence and sexual assault, including multiple rape and attempted murder and he has considerable experience dealing with rape cases involving child victims and witnesses.  As a led junior, Matthew has prosecuted in a number of large-scale frauds including a £multi-million 'Ponzi' fraud.  Current cases include prosecuting as junior in a £17million drugs conspiracy. 
Matthew also undertakes regulatory work and has recently successfully prosecuted in a fatal health and safety case against a £multi-million national company.

Family

Since 2000, Matthew has maintained a successful family practice and has a wealth of experience of public law family work, including acting for the local authority, guardians and parents.  Matthew has a good reputation for this work and is known for his sensible and sensitive approach to cases.  Matthew has experience of dealing with private law cases involving issues of jurisdiction and regularly undertakes ancillary relief work.

Matthew is a keen musician who enjoys playing the piano and organ.  As a native of North Wales he also enjoys walking in the Dee and Ceiriog valleys and is an active member of a number of local community organisations.
