Michael Whitty

Michael joined chambers in 2006 after completing pupillage. He studied Law and French Law at Liverpool University and spent a year studying at the Sorbonne in Paris.

Michael currently enjoys a general common law practice and is regularly instructed in Criminal, Civil and Family cases.

Family
Criminal Practice:

Michael has experience in a wide variety of criminal work and is regularly instructed for hearings and trials in the Magistrates Court and the Crown Court. He has also appeared on several occasions in the Court of Appeal.

Michael has also developed a particular expertise in the cash seizure and forfeiture provisions of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and has significant experience in presenting and responding to applications for forfeiture as well conducting appeals against forfeiture orders. He frequently presents such applications on behalf of the police and has delivered seminars in relation to this area of law which were accredited for CPD points.

Michael is regularly instructed in relation to applications for anti-social behaviour orders and sexual offences prevention order orders and is regularly instructed by police forces, local authorities and solicitors acting on behalf of Respondents to such applications.


Family Practice:

Michael undertakes all aspects of family work and conducts cases in both the Family Proceedings Court and the County Court. He is regularly involved in private and public law children cases.

Employment:

Michael acts for employers and employees in matters involving unfair dismissal, health and safety at work and also in discrimination cases.
