 About Us

1 Stanley Place is a long established general common law set of Barristers’ Chambers committed to a policy of providing a high quality service to clients in Wales, the Marches and the North West of England. In pursuit of this Policy, 1 Stanley Place is committed to the Bar Council’s Practice Management Standards and Guidelines and to the requirements of the Quality Mark Standard for the Bar.

We are able to offer specialist teams or individuals to undertake a wide variety of litigation, arbitration and advisory work. Our reputation is founded upon our high standard of work as specialist advocates and advisors. We provide an advocacy and advisory service not only in crime, family and civil but also planning, licensing, personal injury, employment law, civil actions against the police, trading standards and chancery. Many of our members are fluent in the Welsh language and can provide services in Welsh.

Paperwork

We endeavour to turnaround paperwork within the timescales to suit our clients or where no timescale is marked on the instructions, we will normally complete and return all paperwork within 14 days.

Fees & Clerking

We aim to provide an efficient yet friendly clerking service and our clerks are always willing to advise on suitability and availability of counsel

We will be pleased to provide estimates of fees or any information about specific counsel’s charging rates. Most members of chambers also accept instructions on a conditional fee basis in appropriate cases and also by Direct Professional Access from recognised bodies.

Our charges for publicly funded work are based upon the graduated fee scales in force from time to time but where graduated fees do not apply, charges will be discussed and agreed with you prior to you sending any instructions or brief, or upon receipt of the actual instructions or brief.

In all instructions where you are responsible for payment of our fees, payment is due within three months from the date of the fee note. Payment of fees where a conditional fee agreement is in place becomes due within three calendar months of the case having been settled. In all other private cases, payment of the fee becomes due on or before three calendar months from the date upon which the fee note for the work is submitted.

Facilities

We offer conference facilities in Chambers and we are willing to attend solicitors’ offices should the need arise. We can also arrange telephone conferences. We accept instructions via e-mail and have internet access. We also have disabled facilities.

Equal Opportunities & Non-Discrimination Policy

1 Stanley Place operates an Equal Opportunities and Non-Discrimination policy in accepting briefs and instructions from clients and in the provision of our services and in the selection, recruitment and treatment of staff, pupils and tenants.

Data Protection

All our members are registered under the Data Protection Act.

Client Complaints

We seek to provide a high quality service to all our clients and provide value for money. We aim to comply with the Quality Mark standards in our dealings with lay and professional clients. If at any time you experience any difficulties in your dealings with any member of chambers or any member of staff or have any comments to offer please contact our Practice Manager.

Minor professional complaints will be dealt with by the individual member together with the Practice Manager, whereas more serious professional complaints will be dealt with by the Head of Chambers. The Practice Manager also deals with complaints regarding administrative systems and clerking staff.

We welcome and take seriously all comments from clients and have the appropriate internal procedures for addressing any concerns. We aim to resolve all complaints within 28 days (or sooner if the situation is urgent).
