Crime
Chambers’ criminal team comprises 26 juniors and 3 Silks covering criminal work at all levels from the Magistrates’ Court to the House of Lords. We prosecute and defend in a wide variety of matters, including cases involving allegations of serious sexual offences, serious fraud and homicide.
Members of Chambers have been involved in many major trials including The Morecambe Bay Cocklers Case, Paul Burrell (the Royal butler case), Matthew Hardman (ritual killing), the Brannigan’s murder case, Peter Moore (serial killing) and Sion Aubrey Roberts (Caernarfon bombing),
We conduct Trading Standards cases at all levels and all members of the criminal team are accredited to prosecute for the CPS, and individual members are appointed by the Attorney General to undertake the prosecution work for Government Departments including Customs & Excise, Health & Safety Executive, Department for Works and Pensions and DTI.
Property, Civil & Commercial
Chambers have a long-standing reputation in civil work and are able to offer experience across a wide range of seniority. 1 Stanley Place is committed to high standards and competitive rates. All members of our civil team accept cases on a conditional fee basis. Members of chambers regularly undertake work in the High Court and County Court and in the specialist Chancery and Mercantile lists.

Family
We cover a wide geographical area, from Anglesey to Aberystwyth, Shrewsbury to Manchester and Liverpool and appear in the High Court, County Court and Family Proceedings Court. We undertake all aspects of family related work, including private and public law, Children Act applications, ancillary relief, Inheritance Act and Matrimonial Taxation work, International Child Abduction cases, and all aspects of Injunctive relief and Enforcement Procedures. We can also advise on the impact of the Human Rights Act 1998 on all aspects of family law. Nine members of the team are Welsh speakers, and are happy to conduct conferences and hearings through the medium of Welsh. All members of the team are members of the Family Law Bar Association.
Police Law
Members of chambers regularly conduct a range of civil and regulatory work both for and against police forces and other law enforcement agencies. Recent instructions have included work on behalf of the police forces in Cheshire, North Wales, Greater Manchester and Dyfed-Powys, as well as RART and a number of local authorities.
The range of work conducted by members of chambers includes:
- general advisory work;
- civil actions for false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, negligence and assault;
- civil and criminal confiscation proceedings under POCA 2002;
- SOPO and ASBO applications;
- firearms; and
- judicial review.
Planning
Members of Chambers undertake a wide range of town and country planning and local government work. This includes both appearances at inquiries, particularly planning appeals, and advisory work across a broad spectrum, including highways, housing and environmental law. Members of Chambers also have considerable expertise in licensing appeals.
